WELCOME TO NEILSON ESTATE WINES
We offer high quality award winning dry wines ranging from our estate grown reds and our trophy winning white wine. The reds are Shiraz and Merlot whilst the white is Verdelho as well as our sweeter Autumn Harvest.
We offer a range of fortified wines including Muscat and Port
which are the perfect dessert wines and continuing on.
The winery is located in Perth’s historic Swan Valley,
with a view towards the beautiful Darling Ranges.
The grapes have been carefully handled by the grower and his family with help from an experienced winemaker to create the delicious results, which keeps on getting better and better every time….
The Owners:
Jim and Jenny Neilson planted vines on their Swan Valley vineyard in 1998 and commenced winemaking in 2004 with our 2004 vintage port. In 2005 we made Shiraz and Merlot. In 2006, we organised to have a larger quantity made by an experienced wine maker of the status of John Griffiths to produce the best possible wines at a reasonable cost. As N.E.W is a family business Jim undertakes day to day running of the vineyard and winery operations while Jenny takes care of the management of the vineyard, winery, Jim and the rest of the family. Our daughter Sarah and son Ben are also involved in the management activities including sampling and providing advice.
The Winemaker
John Griffiths is a well-known winemaker with experience in large scale winemaking at Houghtons and is a former university wine-making lecturer. John has been successfully producing high quality wines for the last 20 years. John also has his own winery called “Faber Winery”.

2007 Verdelho
Appearance – Brilliant straw hue
Aroma – A pronounced nose displaying grapefruit and red apple with buttery development becoming apparent
Palate - This fresh palate offers a fruity thick mouthfeel. Grapefruit and citric flavours dominate the whole palate following to a fresh clean finish

2006 Shiraz –
Appearance – Red-purple
Aroma – lifted cherry and raspberry aromas
Palate – a combination of red fruits and lightly oaked flavours
A medium bodied wine with fine tannins - a delightful wine

2005 Merlot
Appearance – red with crimson hues
Aroma – rich black currant characters with a touch of oak
Palate – Medium bodied, ripe black fruit and herbaceous undertones.

2007 Merlot
Appearance – dark red
Aroma –sweet ripe fruit and oak characters
Palate – attractive dark fruit with mint overtones
This is medium bodied wine with a soft finish.
2007 Shiraz –
Appearance – Deep Garnet with blue hues
Aroma – ripe rich fruit aromas
Palate – Shows rich plum and oak flavours, black berry fruits.
A full bodied Shiraz with a smooth style, red fruits and violet aromas.

Appearance – Brilliant lemon hue
Aroma – Displays citrus aromas
Palate - Citric flavours and tropical fruits pervade the whole
palate following to a smooth fruity finish
2008 Autumn Harvest
Appearance - rich straw to light golden hue.
This medium bodied sweet wine displays citric and melon ripe fruit aromas which continue to grow on the palate leaving you with a fresh clean fruit driven finish.
It is best served chilled and consumed with great company, with food or on its own

Appearance – ruby red
Aroma – A distinct nose displaying sweet cherry and plum aromas.
Palate – This fresh palate displays leafy. mintiness with ripe rich fruit characters supported by good oak. True varietal wine

Go north up the Great Northern Highway for 8km from the Reid Highway junction. On the right hand you will see the football/cricket club and on the left hand Herne Hill Deli. Turn at the second street right (Hyem Rd) Follow the dog-leg and immediately after the railway line turn left. First street on the right is Logue Rd. Down the road on the left hand side is Neilson Estate Winery, with the owner’s house built in red brick surrounded by old trees |
